I was so sad today when I read about yet another toddler who died unnecessarily.  The poor 2 year old apparently  got tangled up in a  blind cord and was dead by the time the paramedics arrived. So tragic and as a parent one cannot imgine how the parents must be feeling.

The thing about being a parent is that you have to have eyes everywhere. You need to see all the possible danger spots and yet, at the same time, not be over protective. It is an  impossible task.  I know there have been times when I have been guilty of  being to careless with the children.  And when you have three toddlers under 6 then there are bound to be mishaps, such as leaving them behind and not realising until you arrive home!!!!

But there are precuatons  you can take.

 Blind Cord Safety

• Keep cords out of the reach of children.
• Install blinds without a cord, particularly in a child’s bedroom.
• Do not place a child’s cot or highchair near a window.
• Pull-cord...
s should be kept short and out of reach.
• Tie up the cords or use one of the many cleats, cord-tidies or clips available
• Don’t cut the cords. That can lead to one cord becoming longer, increasing the risk of entanglement, or can create a dangerous loop.

If you find your baby or child not breathing start CPR immediately and do not stop until the emergency services arrive.
